This is a very tasty meal that I cook when having friends over for dinner. The
great thing is that it can be prepared before the guests arrive, which means
less stress in the kitchen and spending more time with good friends.
This is a very typical dish for Denmark. Fish has always been a part of
Danish cooking and fishing has been of great importance to the development of
many cities. The coastline is actually more than 7,000km
long and almost wherever you go in Denmark, you are
near the sea. Also, rye bread is very Danish. It is less
sweet and darker than the rye bread you might be
familiar with from other Scandinavian countries and
Germany and requires quite some time to prepare if
you want to bake it yourself. This is because it is
baked using sourdough
and needs to be left to
rest for around 24 hours
before being baked.
